How can i start a carpet cleaning business with the least investment.?

please only answer this if you have started one and have made it a success where you could quit your day job.here is what i need to know.
1.what equipment do i need.and where can i learn how to use it.
2.can i compete against the big franchises without 2 page yellow page ads like theirs.
3.i really dont want to invest in a truck mount right now, is a good portable unit with heater good enough to make some money on the side till im ready to buy a bigger unit.
4.does anybody know anything about the rotovac unit.
5.what is the cheapest way that actually works to get some part-time business.
6.what portable units do you recommend.
7.any other advice would be appreciated.
8.what about adding tile and grout cleaning to my business, there is hardly anyone advertised in the phone book.

offer to do the work if the customer rents the machine for you. most will take you up on it and it will not cost you a dime

How about looking into acquiring an existing business? There may be some businesses in your area that would entertain the idea of selling their business to you outright. Not necessarily because they are not making money. Many business owners eventually own multiple businesses and find it difficult or impossible to run them all to profit due to lack of time and/or resources.

Simply make contact with businesses of interest to you and make a pro inquiry as to the possibility.

I realize that I did not answer your question as you wish. I am simply implanting alternative thought processes in case you find yourself in position where you might have to consider other methods.

The least expensive start-up would be .... go to wal-mart and purchase a couple toothbrushes and some generic carpet cleaner and you will be on your way to a successful business.

Just remember you can start a business with only a shoestring.

You may not believe this, but go buy a Kirby machine. We brought one and it was a good investment. Hey.... you might want to clean the home then try selling the machines.
