Parliamentarism in America? |
President Bush has done much to conflate the legislative and executive branches of U.S. government. And current candidates like B. Obama (and his supporters) view the office of President, much like President Bush, as essentially creative of change. Since change in our Republic is dependent upon the cooperation of the legislative branch (from the perspective of the Executive) is America headed toward a European style parliamentarism in which there is no clear separation of powers? Is that a good thing, consistent with our constitution? Do the current democratic candidates further threaten the separation of powers initiated by Pres. Bush? Obama cannot change America because the system is well entrenched in accordance with democracy. |
