Does the Mainstream Media pander to the lowest common denominator in American politics?

The Mainstream Media ignores or slights the best qualified candidate Ron Paul at every opportunity. Dr. Paul has the most substantive record in the Congress and the most concrete proposals for Change and to restore the United States to economic prosperity. Yet the MSM lauds the crooks and charlatans who are runnning for Presidency on filmsy platforms supported by special interest groups. Has the Media sold out? Look at Dr. Paul's record--can any of the other candidates match it?

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul鈥檚 Record:

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress

Does the Mainstream Media pander to the lowest common denominator in American politics?
PROBABLY!
After all it certainly panders to the lowest common denominator in INTELLIGENCE levels!

Television COULD have been a wonderful tool for raising the awareness, intelligence levels and overall acuity and capability level of the human race, but instead of countering and combatting ignorance, stupidity, and underachievement, it has pandered to them, marketed to them, played to them and encouraged them at every turn!
And this trend is only getting WORSE! Even stations like THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL, THE LEARNING CHANNEL and THE HISTORY CHANNEL are serving up more garbage and worthless fluff than real food for thought! Their programming has plummeted drastically in quality over the last decade or so. They seem more interested in showing dysfunctional families squabbling and building custom motorcycles and people blowing things up, than anything worthy of "Discovering", "Learning" or labeling as "History".

As to this "Ron Paul" person, I know nothing about him, but your description sounds pretty good. I have said many times, though, and it is still as true as ever, that the real power-brokers have such a strangle-hold on politics nowdays that anyone who CAN make it into a national level office, SHOULDN'T!
If this guy IS a for-rreal good guy then he would never stand a chance of making into office and if he did, by some fluke, he would not be allowed to live long enough to accomplish anything of genuine value.

I don't agree with you about Ron Paul although the more I earn about him the less he sounds like a republican. It's no secret that media agencies such as newscorp extol Rupert Murdochs political views on their outlets like Fox news and metromedia's numerous radio stations. CNN used to have to answer to Ted Turner but now they're Time Warner.

For the mainstream media, it's all about the "horse race." On CNN, they call it the "Ballot Bowl" for heavens sake. An individual candidate's voting record or concrete proposals for solutions to problems matters little. Because it doesn't sell commercials for WalMart. Having integrity and real ideas isn't going to get Ron Paul anywhere with the mainstream media. It's not sexy enough. Of course the media has sold out. That's what the media is all about. Selling.
