What is the paper work needed to open a branch office in united states for company in india?

There will be a lot of paperwork needed, so I suggest the first thing to do is to hire an agent to help you set up a business in the US. From business registrations to licensing to getting permits to work in the US, it is best to have someone who knows how to do it. There are some business lawyers who specializes in helping foreign companies set up shop in the US.

If you will also have personnel from India coming in to the US to run the business, I suggest getting an immigration lawyer to help you with getting the proper investors visa or work permits.
