Can your employer deny you pay raises etc...if you decline to sign the Arbitration Act? |
Our company's VIP came in monday while our branch office mgr was on vacation,he asked everyone to be in the office at 9 for a meeting,we had no idea what the meeting was about, once everyone was in,he handed out a copy of the Arbitration Act saying,we either sign or we do not get raises, bonuses, sales promotions,etc.....is this legal??? Your employer is under no obligation to raise your salary for any reason except the minimum wage being raised to more than what you currently make. If he is smart, he will pay you what you are worth. If this is a large corporation, you are a number an a balance sheet and could be out the door next week for reasons that you may not even know about. If you are an at-will employee, your employer can change the terms of your employment at will, with notice. Here he is adding the requirement that you sign an Arbitration Agreement as a condition of receiving future incentive-based pay and salary increases. It is totally legal...and don't give it too much through, because agreeing to arbitrate employment disputes means a shorter time to resolve them instead of going to court, and the arbitrator still has to follow the law in their decision. If you're not in a union...unfortunately yes they can deny you or have you sign stuff that you may not agree with. It doesn't sound like they are treating their employees very well. Sounds like they are out to screw you and your co-workers. Better start looking on monster.com. |
