Japan - getting work before you go?

I have heard that the best way to find a job in Japan is to secure it before you go. But if that's the case how can you secure a job while in the U.S.? Should you go with an american company that has a branch office in Japan? Would it be wise to find a Japanese company in the U.S. and start working for them with the hopes that they will eventually send you to Japan for a few years? And then there is the teaching english scenario. Looking for advice from people who have experience working in Japan as a foreigner.

鈾 think it's better to have a job waiting BEFORE you come. A guaranteed job will get you a work visa and save you time and trouble once here. Your employer may arrange for many of your living arrangements as well.

I am teaching English here in Japan and it is a great career. Once you submit your forms to the Japanese Embassy, you'll have a work visa in less than 2 months. The salary is pretty good. It is good enough to live in, as long as you aren't going out every night. With just a little effort, you can even save money. It doesn't matter if it is Japanese owned or foriegner owned. All English schools are competitive.
