Aren't my bank taking the mickey?

my bank insist on sending me a statement to my address which is unsafe-is this a legal requirement?
whenever they screw up the account local branch refers me to head office and vice versa;the fact that they created the mistake and should sort it seems to escape their attention and they don' t seem to understand the problem-i live in fear of the next screw up

It is a legal requirement to produce a statement, but nothing in law says it has to be sent to your address. I assume you would rather collect your statement from your branch?

A bank does by law have to supply you with a regular statement of your account. regular can be by monthe, quarter, 6 month or annual.
Some banks offer the statement online to save paper and postage costs, but thats a choice of the bank to provide this service.

If you register for internet banking some banks will stop sending you paper statements. But don't hold out any hope of them stopping taking the mickey. Banks are all basically b**tards just out to screw you for as much money as they can get.

why would sending it to your address be unsafe first of all?

Let me guess is this LLOYDS/ TSB?

they all do that's why they make extreme profits

You're a worrier Patrick, Dear me, what are we going to do with you? Ask your bank if they participate in paper free banking where you recieve online statements, and even if they don't, stop worrying so much. If your bank account is compromised i'm sure the bank have a system to protect you and your funds.

the questin thats really burning in my mind is why on earth do you live somewhere that it is unsafe to recieve mail. time to move me thinks

my bank screwed up with me. Following the complaint and visit from myself to the manager I received a bottle of wine and roses ordered and delivered by interflora::::: who paid for them? keep on at them until they finally listen to you

go and open another account seek another bank or building society set it up with the right detail then have your wages paid in once complete change you direct payments ect

I've moved around quite a bit (with work), so I've given the bank my Fathers address so that all post goes there. Could you do the same thing.

Also, if you are not happy with your bank, change to another one.

I work for a major UK bank, you don't mention who your bank is, so I can only advise what my employers do. (Although I'm writing this just as a yahoo member, not as a bank representative - gotta cover myself)!

Banks do have to send regular statements (one reason is so that you can check all the transactions against your records and flag up any suspicious activity).

My bank does give customers the option of switching off paper statements if they are registered with internet banking, although they still have to advise you of any charges in advance, for example, even if you have elected not to receive paper statements but you have an overdraft, you won't receive the statement with transactions, but you will get one sheet telling you how much overdraft interest will be debited next month.

The bank does need to have your residential address, but my bank can register a correspondence address for you as well, so this may be an option for you if you have another address or P.O box address you wish to use.

As for the screw ups, the buck passing is unacceptable (I hope it's not my bank)! Ask for the complaints / customer care dept. Also written complaints seem to carry more weight. If you're concerned that the local branch won't act, send the letter to the Head Office.

Remember as well as working for a bank I'm also a customer, and I know how frustrating mistakes are (whichever bank it is). For me personally, whenever I've had problems with ANY company, it's not the initial mistake that bothers me so much, it's the way it's dealt with - mistakes can be made, but PLEASE take responsibility and rectify them quickly!

Hope this is some help (although it's probably too long and rambling to be read all the way through)!

Do not suffer in silence.

If you think you have a valid complaint, ask the bank to refer you to their complaints dept. If they do not resolve it, ask them for papers to refer your complaint to the banks ombudsman. They are terrified of him.

when i went abroad, I stopped my statements, this was back in November 2005

I check my statements on line., never had any problems

Lloyds are a bunch of useless, unhelpful, sh..ts
