Changing my name after marriage?

Is it better to go to the Social Security office before the license branch or vice versa or does it matter? What all do i need to take to each ? I am so confussed about all this. Thanks.

I took the wedding certificate to the DMV first then I went to the social security office with it all and had that changed too. Its not real hard just time consuming. Prepare for it taking about a day to get it all done.

You have to change it with the social security first, before you do anything else. If you need to know what to take, call your local social security office and find out this information.

Once you get your marriage license you take it and your drivers license to the Social Security office to apply for the new social security card with your name the way you want it.

Its best(lot easier) to get the license and then go to SS office. That way you can just show the paper work that you have filed with SS office.

In my state you have to go to the s.s. office first.Take your present s.s. card and the legal copy of your marriage license.After your receive your new ss card with your new name then you go to the drivers license office.

I did my liscense first then my SS card the week after. Just bring your marriage liscense to the DMV and your old liscense.

At SS office you need to fill out forms. Get them online and bring your marriage liscense, new drivers liscense, old SS card, and passpost if you have one.

As soon as you purchase your marriage license go to the social security office and start there.

Talk to the place where you get your marriage license, they can help you alot, they might even have a packet of stuff that will have all the forms and check off sheets you'll need to get that taken care of!

I just went through this in November of 06 and that is how I got everything done. The marriage license place was a big help!

You cannot change your name on your social until you get the certified copy of your marriage certificate back from the state and that can only happen after you're married. The same holds true for your drivers license name change.

it doesnt matter which one you change first. i had my id changed first. still havent made to do my ss. just make sure you take your marriage license with ya.
