Is Cheney Trying to Abolish the National Archives in Order to Save His Own Behind?

He wants to abolish the department within the national archives that oversees the handling of classified information because they need access to the classified documents in his office. He is trying to use his power to protect himself stating that his office is not part of the executive branch of government and is therefore not obligated to comply with any executive or judicial orders that affect the executive branch of government. he cites that because he is President of the Senate he is therefore a member of the Legislative branch.

What is he trying to hide now?

This administration has told all of us, over and over, that they're above the law and the Constitution.

Gonzo and the justice firings were politcal retaliation for justices that did not tow the party line enough. It was a way to say a ton w/o saying a word. Do as we say or you're gone too.

Valerie Plame was political retaliation for her husband speaking out about the administration.

Cheney trying to pretend his office is immune from checks and balances.

Bush trying to get presidential records to be protected for longer than the 12 years currently on the books.

Bush trying to get an amendment passed that would further alienate our fellow Americans.



Nixon's administration looks like a saintly one compared to this one.

I think he is trying to hide the USA's severe violations of the Geneva Convention (among other things).

He may be trying to protect Clinton.
Sandy Berger stole & destroyed classified documents from the National Archives to protect Clinton from the 9/11 Commission Investigation.

Berger may have saved Clinton from being charged with Treason, or at least not doing his job.

I know you hate to hear because you are a Cheney-Bush hater but he's right. He is part of the legislature! If there was no Archieves then I guess there would be any documents for the Clintons lacky Sandy Berger to steal!

The fact he is a traitor to our country. I say Patriot Act him and then take him outside put him against a wall and shoot him for treason.

His logic is that he falls under both legislative and executive, so he shouldnt fall under the rules of either basically. Sounds to me like he should be twice as regulated as everyone else. Instead he gets his own group in the CIA that answers directly to him, and he gets to be the only one that can link Iraq to Al-Quaeda, yet no one can force him to explain the link. Sounds like he has it made.

Where did u come up with abolish the National Archives? Do you have a link? So far he is just against their cataloging his files and rummaging freely thru his office. And at what cost and how many leaks? Who is he protecting? Clinton or others b4? He may just feel that military secrets are best left secret especially in a time of war.
The CIA released 30 yrs of material 2day. Most had already gone out the door before. Who knows. Apparently I missed this headline I guess. I say open up all the cans of worms and Clinton's as well. * The CNN report says "properly handled" documents. Ther may be more to this than meets the eye. It should be partially under Clinton-Executive Orders. I will look it up. Kudos for the great info. Appreciate your time on my 2 cts with the pre 9-11 hijack I totally believe in. I have researched it for years and when Sept 11 happened I was sick no one understood a plane was a bomb. Thanks again.
