How to build an Intranet?

I have developed a software for a group of companies. Now, they have 5 branches. Our software uses SQL database and it is placed on the server in the head office. What my client wants is to have all branches using my application and post all data to the server in the head office. They have DSL connection, what they really want is fast reliable transfer of transactions. I can modify my application to post the info to the server even if its in another location. all I need is the steps that I should follow exactly to create the intranet that will cover all 5 branches. So far, we have the application up and running, we have the server in the client's head office, internet connection for all branches. I need specific steps of how I can build the intranet. We can develop the software for the intranet, all we need is the description of the whole process. Thank you

Your best and most secure option would be to use VPN's to connect all the sites together.

I assume each site has it's own network subnet i.e one is 192.168.1.0/24, another is 192.168.2.0/24 etc. Or are they all on the same subnet with different addresses OR do they share the same addressing scheme and addresses ?
With VPN you could put all the clients on the same network! Might be a big job though!

It is very easy to do it without VPN but there are security issues.
On your incomming connection (Router/PC ?) forward a port to the server which has the database on it. Write your software to issue requests to the external IP address and port of your internet connected router/PC and all should be fine.
OK so there are a few more things you have to sort out but have fun.
