How do I go about getting the overdraft fee dropped?

I set up a new joint bank acount with my partner, didn't set up an agreed overdraft limt, we have gone 9.98 overdrawn, and they are charging us 拢30.00 for going overdrawn. I REALLY dont want to pay, what proceedure should I use? Go to the branch and rant and rave or write a stern letter to head office? Any hints or tips on getting a result in my favour..

Ranting and raving won't help. Go to your local branch and ask politely if they will refund all or part of the fee this one time. Explain that it was a mistake that you will try to avoid in the future. If you rant and rave, you're killing any chance you'll have of getting help from them in the future.

Live and Learn - there's nothing you can do about the fee (I've tried). If there is an "overdraft protection", get it, or balance your checkbook regularly.

If it is the first time you have ever had an overdraft you could try to call and talk to the bank and see if they will forgive it this one time. Sometimes they will sometimes they won't. Most banks don't charge an overdraft if the over draft is less than a dollar. Don't think this will help you much but I have experienced this situation recently.

IF you switch banks to them they will deposit 拢50 into your account.

I usually have my husband call and sweet talk the (usually) woman. If I call, I adopt an ignorant country girl twang and talk about how this banking stuff is just so confusing! Everyone likes to feel superior and as if they're doing you a grand favor. Let them. Works with traffic cops, too.

Talk to them nicely, explain that you hadn't realised you would go overdrawn, and in any case you thought that if that happened the bank would not honour the check or debit card withdrawal and that it was the first time, and the first time you ahd a joint account, and it was just that one of you ahdn't realised the other had also taken money out.. It MIGHT just work, otherwise let it be a lesson, and sort out an agreed overdraft with them.

You have to check up.The account opening form or agreement or thousands of forms we sign at the time of opening of account will have some provision for OD limit and charges.If there is no limit fixed,you can request the bank to refund.

I think you should leave the country, you have stolen money and I think it is illegal to take money without permission.
