Question about ethics and co-workers? |
I am 1 of an assistant manager in an office. The other assistant manager is a poor preformer. My boss the branch manager will almost poke fun of him with eveybody and you almost have to join him to have him like you. Both him and I went to a meeting at another branch and he was just going off about my counter part. And yet again you have to join in for the polotics reason. This other assistant is a dump-a** he will always leave early ect. but my boss will not put the hammer down on him. has anyone else been in a situation like this. Office politics are the worst. Just do your job and don't get involved with all that other stuff. If the other guy is really that bad he will be outa there sooner or later. Or, you could take the high road, get to know this person and see if there is anything you can do personally to help him do a better job. Yes and I no longer work there! You shouldn't say anything in response, just nod or tell him you find it uncomfortable. You're setting yourself up... it will backfire on you. You should lead by example and quit being a follower. well yes and you just have to go with the flow you cant change what he thinks and does let him burn himself I believe you are acting unethically by going along with your boss. And your boss is certainly acting unethically making fun of his employee. What power does this other assitant manager have over your boss? Is ther someone above to talk to. Why should u carry all of the load. Im sensing that this guy has some connection with your boss that your boss isnt saying. As the head boss he needs to talk in private with this person not broadcast it to everyone else, and/or just let him go. Don't worry about the branch manager liking you. You can choose to be the kind of person who sits by and goes along with the crowd to avoid trouble or since you are an assistant mgr I assume you have some leadership quality's so don't be that cowardess type of person. You don't have to outwardly object to the things that he says but you don't have to join in the bashing either. If you do have to disagree sometimes people will be less defensive if you start you sentence by saying " I feel like"....this may be a better idea. or " I think" it just comes across better and doesn't sound like you re barking demands. Good luck Yeah, I've been there...similar situation...but I was the assistant supervisor and my supervisor was a total SLACKER....always took breaks and 2 hour lunches to do errands...came to work late.. I was the one who did his job pretty much. The AVP who hired him was friends with him for a long time....so there wasnt alot anyone could do about it....so we (his department) would play practical jokes on him and mess with his desk when he was on his lengthy breaks....I know not a very mature solution, but it did make us feel better and have a good laugh! plus this was 15 years ago, I wouldnt do that now....ok, I would! probably not very helpful, but hopefully I made you laugh :) good luck!! OH YEAH, some people just don't know how NOT to be rude. People always have to have someone to pick on. If they are talking behind his back, you have to wonder what they are saying about you. A lot of people that do that are unsure of themselves, so they pick on who thy consider "inferior" to them. First of all, I hope you as an assistant manager are working on your spelling skills and not creating documents like you just sent out. If your planning on being a good manager you will not tolerate unprofessional behavior of any kind-no matter who it comes from. I would tell my boss (aside in private of course) that If he ever felt that way about my performance I would appreciate it if he told me personally instead of humiliating me in front of my peers. I think that he'll get the picture. i'm in that situation now at my job......but it turns out that the guy they won't fire goes to church with the boss man and he doesn't want to have to look at him in church.....i guess it is something we just have to deal with. |
