Having trouble coping with the distance...?

I am a full time student and I work full time. My boyfriend and I have been together for over two years now and he recently moved 2 and a half hours away to help run his family's company in August. The original plan was for him to be back with me by the beginning of November. (He was going to set up a satellite office out of our apartment. He was also supposed to start a branch of the company in our city.) He hasn't moved back yet because he says the company is in worse shape than he thought and also his parents are getting divorced so in a year the company is going to be sold. I'm just having trouble coping with the distance. I try to go and see him as much as possible and he does the same. He says I need to try and understand and I am trying, but I miss him so much. Every time he calls me I feel like he's just making small talk. I miss the closeness we once had. I don't know what to do about it. Any suggestions?
