Is it illegal for a person to be payed for a position at af business when they do not actually work there?

I am employed at a branch of a telemarketing firm that is run from another state. My manager gives his friend a paycheck weekly who never actually shows up for work.Calling human resources or the greivence line is useless as people who do this are quickly fired. Isn't there an agency that I can report this to? I know that their is no arrangement for this person to work from his home or away from the office.

I'm not certain of the law, but it definitely sounds unethical.

Try contacting the labor board for the state you work in, and/or the state where your corporate headquarters is located. You should be able to put in a complaint anonymously, so that you're not fired...Then again, if you were fired, you'd have reason to file suit.

Also, as I previously answered, you can send an anonymous letter...If they don't know who you are, they can't fire you.

I have to ask, though...How do you know that there's no contract in place? I certainly don't know the details of any of my coworkers' arrangements with their managers, so I'm not certain how you'd know what contracts might have been signed.

Yes. Just like it's illegal to be paid in a country that you do not belong to.

if this bothers you so, contact your local Employment Office and b1tch at them

Yes it's illegal. Contact the Better Business Bureau.

Well...there's no law being broken here. The manager that's saying the person is working is breaking company policy (almost certainly) but if a company chooses to pay someone to be foolish with their money...there's not much you can do about it except report it to your supervisor or possibly write a letter to the board of directors.

Perhaps you should find out who your manager's boss is and see if the arrangement--or lack thereof--is on the up-and-up. Other than that possible impropriety, perhaps the "friend" is having some illegit funds laundered.
