Fired from work with no reason?

My uncle and 21 other people have been called from the sub-branch of INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) company today and told that today is their last day to work due to not being USA citizen but he鈥檚 a US permanent resident and been working there for the past 5 years. All of the sudden, he got a call from their office saying that today is the last day (bring the badge and uniform). They didn鈥檛 give any warning prior to the call. He鈥檚 very upset and waiting for a Citizenship interview (which we told the company, they didn鈥檛 care). He can鈥檛 pay his bills now. What to do..?? Can we do anything legal..??

Here is what's happening. Many employers including myself have received notice from INS stating that if any of our employees are not registered with the INS (Green card status) then we would not only receive a fine for each employee we hired but it also carries a prison sentence up to 3 years for the owner of the business. Many employers like myself have requested every employee to fill out a new w-2 form and must have proof of birth and a state drivers license. If they were not born in the US then I need a copy of their US citizenship papers or a work permit (Green card). Now if your Uncle has these documents then YES, contact an attorney to help you with this. Your Uncle may not get his job back but he should be compensated for his lost during this time.

Here's a suggestion for you - Since this was sudden have a meeting of the family and see if you can pool your resources to help your Uncle get thru this. If he has all the correct papers go to the unemployment office or you can call them on the phone now, and draw unemployment until your Uncle gets other work.
