Are you concerned with congress investigating the commutation and pardoning powers of the US presidency?

Let's be clear about this. This question is NOT about Bush's activities. This isn't about whether Bush should or should not have commuted Libby's sentence or whether he will or won't pardon him when leaving office.

This is about NOT messing with the way things are. One of the checks and balances in our justice system is the absolute power of the executive branch to pardon or commute. The whole point of this is justice and/or mercy when the executive believes the justice system failed or where mercy is demanded.

I personally believe the President should NOT have commuted Libby's sentence. However, he did. And just because that makes some people angry does NOT mean we should do away with this part of our system of government, in my opinion.

What do YOU think?

I don't think Congress should "futz" with commutation or pardoning. I agree with your comment about checks and balances.

I agree. But the liberals think this is an opportunity to skew the rules so they can abuse them.

I really don't care who pardon's who - pardon me, but I just don't care.

I think every single congress member should be required to sit in their seat all day long and work like the rest of us. These seats should be wired to shock their lazy mis-guided asses every time they focus on something other than:
- illegal immigration
- the price of gas
- declining morals
- the plight of honest hard-working people who struggle just to make ends meet and pay their taxes, only to have a huge chunk of those taxes go to fat ash lazy worthless people who boink whatever moves and then have to hold a lottery to find out who my baby daddy?

THIS is what we need them to focus on.

Bill Clinton certainly abused and made a joke of this power when he was leaving office. Why was there no outcry from congress then?

First of all, I think Bush was fully justified to commute the unwaranted sentence against Libby. It was pure and simple a witchhunt with libby the scapegoat.

Secondly its now going to far with all these investigations, the democrats are acting like spoilt children let lose in a candy store.

T"hey've launched over 300 investigations, had over 350 requests for documents and interviews and they have had over 600 oversight hearings in just about 100 days,"

The democrats are wasting time, 600 oversight hearings in 100 days, how do they justify this when there are REAL problems to solve the president had a plan about immigartion, yet the democrats are not interested in solving a real problem, they just want to create trouble, create nothing out of nothing.

They make me sick.

First, Libby was convicted of lying to a grand jury. Second, yes Clinton did make some bad decisions on pardoning but he did not pardon a person that committed a crime that was part of his administration. Congress should look into this special treatment for a "loyal soldier." It means that any person in this administration can lie and not be punished. This whole administration is corrupt and they all should be thrown in jail with Rove and Cheney leading the way.

It seems you like the imperial presidency. That's all right. Either way you live under a dictatorship. And your people are so uneducated they can't even notice.

soooo uneducated.
