Should we reevaluate a Supreme Court judge's term every 4 years?

This is for speech and debate:

Whereas: The legislature and the executive branch are subject to term limits.
Whereas: The principle of a federalist government requires fair checks and balances across all 3 parts of the government.
Whereas:Lifetime appointment to political office leads to absolute power which corrupts absolutely.
Let it be resolved by this student congress: That the Supreme Court will be subject to term limits requiring a judge's term to be reevaluated and renewed Congressional(y) approval every 4 years.

No. This way, they will not feel any obligation to constituents and feel the pressure to please individuals.

I agree, only problem is that it would tie up congress

It would be a major change to the Constitution. The founders wanted to be sure that the Court would not be subject to political pressure, which is why things are the way they are today.

The reason that the US Supreme Court Justices do not have term limits is so that they can make their decisions based upon the interpretation of law and not worry about whether their decision will negatively impact their re-election prospects. Life-time appointment is actually one of the checks and balances you mention in your second premise. The Executive branch nominates a prospective justice. The nomination must be approved by the Legislative branch thereby balancing the Executive Branch's influence. The Judicial branch has the authority to declare any law enacted by the Legislative branch unconstitutional and therefor invalid. This balances the authority of the Legislative Branch. Once appointed the justice serves for life and is immune to pressure from the body which the justice is supposed to check and balance in the first place. If the justice had to continually go before the Legislative branch to renew their position then that invalidates the balance the Judicial Branch is supposed to enforce. Your third premise is an invalid statement without factual support. It is a supposition and not a very good one at that.

Good idea, clear some dead wood.

No.

cbruscas man you have the nail on the head with that one. I couldnt have put it better myself, thank god someone has a remote understanding of the govnerment.

at least every six yrs so they are not in an election year.
