Why apple rejected my ipod repair service included in warrenty?

i sent my ipod in because of a problem i had with its headphone jack (sound only comes from one end of the headphone w/ any headphone or speaker) and i went to apple.com to check the repair status and it said "repair service cancelled" and i dont know why they would cancel it because it was within my warrenty and the damage was not my fault it's because of an faulty headphone jack ... what can i do?? my friend said he had the same problem and said i should go to apple and talk to the
"genius bar" because his was also rejected but went there and got a new ipod for free! .......also i would like to add that my ipod was a 5th gen 30gb video and i dont know if they can replace if i go to genius bar.. what do u think they will do?
