Are Jehovah's Witnesses exempted from military service in the US in times of conscription?

Honest question. No judgement. I just can't find the answer on Google.

I'd love a reference if you have one.

When I was young, and there was still a draft, I had friends who were in jail, and those who refused, but weren't. The conscription laws do allow for exemption for religious reason, if the person if a full time minister, regardless of religion, but it is up to the judge when they go to trial.

All baptized and active publishers are legally considered ministers, but only the full time pioneers come close to meeting the requirements of thew court. And even than, a judge could reject the argument saying that JWs are not a legitimate religion as compared to say the Catholics. The amount of time in jail was four years, but in other countries it can be much longer.

In France, they serve two years in jail, get released, get drafted, get convicted for refusal, serve two years in jail, get released, get drafted, get convicted, and so it can go on for more than a decade.

In Nazi Germany, all JWs were thrown into prison camps, for their refusal to serve in the military, to work in the war factories, and for refusing allegiance to Hitler, along with recognizing his divinity. Himmler believed he was of divine origin.

Of interest, the German Officers only used JWs for hair cuts and shaves. They knew that the witnesses took their belief not to kill seriously and thus would not try to slit their throats.

It depends, if there's a really big war going on, If the government tells us we have to go to war, we prefer to be thrown into prison or be executed, like they do in other countries. Our total allegiance is to God not to men. You will not find a single baptized Jehovah's Witness in the military unless he has renounced his faith. Fighting in a war is equal to murder, a cause for disfellowshiping.

My military recruiter was a JW.

Anyone can be rejected from the draft as a conscientous objecter.

Probably because of their brainwash propaganda in their minds.

My 2 cents.

Unless things have changed no they are not....my father served time in jail for refusing to serve due to his religion. That was over 40 yrs ago. So unless the US government has changed its policy...no

Yes, i believe they are.

no they are citizens right?? they would have to be conscientious objector..
all men are created equal
