My central air conditioner....? |
I dont know if it is just a simple fix or not, but my air conditioner stopped blowing as much as it did a couple a weeks ago. Now it has been 95 this past week but I have it set on 70 and its 81 in the house. The air coming out is cold but there is not a lot of it blowing out. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is it just the heat? I am just trying to save the service call. Any answers would be helpful. Thanks. Anytime an ac loses cooling potential it is either due to low freon or poor airflow. BUT units are typically sized for 92 degrees or less. Wait for a high of 85 when your house is as cool as you set it in the morning. If the system runs like what you are used to then don't fret. Conversely, if not, check your indoor coil to see if it is stopped up (provided your air filter is clean). This is in either the attic, crawlspace, or a closet where the copper lines flow into your air handler/furnace and looks like a radiator. Clean it with a wet paint brush on the side where the air returns (the big duct) that sucks. This is only if you have a split system. If you have a package system (your outdoor system will connect to the house with a big sheet metal duct), then this part is in it. Pull the power first before doing anything, there is either 110 or 220 volt power in these systems. If you notice a decrease in the air flow then probably you first need to check your filter, if that doesnt do it then the evap. coils needs to be pulled out and cleaned. If you have an air handlers in a closet you can take the filter grill and stick your head and look up toward thet unit and thats your coil it should look like the coils in the outside unit..... You say the volume of air is less. Did you check the filter? Sounds like it is clogged.... Either that or.. could be that connection in the attic separated. If you can climb into the attic with A/C on full blast, you should be able to feel your way to locate where the leak is located. The simplest things you can do are to make sure your filter is clean, and wash your condensing unit coils. |
