Has anyone been told not to use ethinol in their bmw's?

I was told that is what caused by replacement fuel pump, the bmw mechanic told me he has only replaced two fuel pumps in bmw cars in his years of servicing. I contacted bmw dealer and they didn't have an answer, just that they were working on this problem. Since all gas stations are going to have ethinol added by the end of June 2008, what will bmw owners do.......

If you read the owner's manual, you will see that the car is rated for 10% ethanol or less.

Higher blends like E85 will damage any BMW.

The problem is not with the ethanol it's with the fueling stations method of switching over.

When the stations add ethanol enriched gas the first time they are supposed to empty and completely clean and dry their tanks. If they do not, the new ethanol enriched fuel picks up any and all moisture and dirt that has built up in the tank transporting it directly to your car. This moisture and dirt clogs pumps and causes near instant failure.

All gasoline today have at least 10% alcohol. That is not a problem. It's been like that for about 10 years (at least in NYC) with no problems.

It is the new E85 (85%) that will corrode the tank and fuel line,

E85 can and will corrode tanks and fuel lines in vehicles not specifically designated as "flex fuel" vehicles.

10% is in most cheap gasoline and works fine.
