Infrastructure in the UK. How good is it? |
In a recent answer I saw somebody in the UK saying that the country has "Very good infrastructure" and I would like to know what you think. As an example. Where I live (a village in Germany of about 290 people) I have a bus service once an hour from 4.59 am in both directions to major towns. I then have access to a rail network that has more than twice the distance of track and twice the stations of the UK (in the 1950's they were about the same, but the UK axed half its track) and it costs far less to use. I have better and faster roads. I can drive from here to Calais at an average of 72 mph and not break the speed limit. From Dover to Manchester is averaged at 42 mph if you are lucky. I live within an hours drive of five airports, three of which fly to the UK. I drive in Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia and see nice new roads being built. The uk rail system is failing. Bank holiday or weekend travel is impossible. How is it where you live and could it ever describe it as excellent? I am British born and bred and have a family tree going back to 1252. Where as Richards C's comments would leave you to believe that he didn't know who is father was. its s**t. poor public transport in any where that isn't a major city, our roads our completely congested all the time, all motorways seem to be permanently stuck with road works making huge amounts of traffic yet no buggers ever doing any work, its a pile of cack and our government are b*****ds As a visitor to the UK, I think the infrastructure there WAS way ahead of it's time for many years (motorways, rail). It's still very good, but by contrast other countries have just as good or better now. I'd rather live in England with a **** infrastucture than in Germany anyday. 2 world wars and 1 world cup, Richard c,just because he lives in Germany doesn't mean that he is German.I lived in Japan,I am not Japanese.I lived in HongKong,I am not ChineseI now live in England,I am English,I live in a small village in the southeast of England and while the buses are regular,it isn't what you would call a good service,a train ticket costs a re-mortgage.Travel here is not cheap. There are so many road works,it is un-real but it is home I suppose. The infrastructure is there but whether it is very good or not I don't know.Compared to Tokyo I would have to say no,even tiny HongKong has a better infrastructure. |
