This question is for dual miltiary couples with kids? |
im thinking about going active duty in the army or airforce to persue a career in homland security and i think the military would give me a great advantage and my finacee wants to go reserve in the service i pick we do plan on getting married before we join but would we get stationed together and how much family time will we get with each other and kids? I ran into a warrant officer today he's now a agent for the government he told me he took his family everywhere he went except vietnam and africa and he did 23 years in the army...And how will the military be helpful for us taking all answers but somebody please thats going through it or know something similar to my situation As long as you do your paperwork correctly and they know you are married to another service member it shouldn't be no problem. Your confused. You can but most of the time no. I have friends still active one is in Texas and he just got sent to Alaska. So you have to really think about it Maybe just one join and the other find a contract job dealing with military. That is what we did he was active Army and I worked in the same building with him. Just different jobs. That way when one gets deployed or moved they usually work finding the other a job at the new site. Good Luck from my experience from being married to military and having dual military friends, they as well as I have always been stationed together. unless you are being deployed you will more than likely be together. The Army has a program for "Dual Military couples" that helps you both get a statuion that will fullfill both of your obligatons, My last team chief and his wife were "dual Army" , one active and one reserve, and the army hasa moved tham around and they just find bases that have openings for both you and your wife My husband and I were both active duty and had a daughter and we both retired from the Air Force. In the 16 years we were together while in the Air Force we were only separated 6 months. If your fiance plans on going to the reserves after you get situated it probably won't be a problem if you're at a larger base with a reserve squadron. Our friends who are currently in the Air Force one active duty and one reserves, he's stationed at Fairchild in Spokane Wa. and she has to go to McChord in Seattle for her reserve weekends. After you're through with your basic training and tech school and she is too it will be regular 730 to 1630 Monday - Friday days unless you have a job where shift work is required or have weekend standby or duty or something of that sort going on. So it depends. I suppose it doesn't matter, but the Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security and it would seem to me a more logical choice to serve in on active duty. Just my opinion. |
