I'm an ex-pothead... Can I join the LAPD?

I'm 30 years old, in great physical shape, and received my Bachelors degree with a 3.8 GPA. I have never been arrested for anything and haven't even had a traffic ticket since I was 17. I've always been active in community service and finally realized that a job with the LAPD would be ideal for me! I know they give applicants a polygraph exam and want to be completely honest in my answers. The only problem I foresee is that I used to smoke a lot of weed on a regular basis. I've been smoke-free for almost 6 months now, and am wondering what the policies are with the department. Does anyone know what they require as far as past drug use?

They ask you questions like that so that can tell if you are telling to truth or not. If you say that you have never done anything illegal in your life then they know that you are lying. Everyone messes up sometimes.

Yeah, I would imagine you would be able to, but you may have to wait a year or so, seeing as how your use was so constant.
BUT since you live in CA, and they are so liberal with the ganja, you may be able to join right up.

There's likely a grace period. Attend an information session and talk to a recruiter.
