IT is told hat mccain was healthy in the prison camps and actually gained weight in the end when he betrayed his fellow soldiers to get better treatment.

I think Democrats need to expose mccain for those cowardly crimes. They did it to Kerry and now payback is a ( You know what)

This is not a popular subject. You will receive answers that are not informed. Similar to those that expose Sen Obama's views like his Senate Bill S2433 that hand over much of our sovereignty and 856 billion of our GNP to the U.N. With that said, I am a Vietnam Vet. Two combat tours 64-67. I am a member of the American Legion. My Post members by majority are Vietnam vets. In about every Post I am a ware of John McCain is called "Hanoi John" because of his violation of the Military Code of Conduct for P.O.W.'s. The following is fact. It is in the Congressional Record. John McCain had his P.O.W. records sealed by an Act of Congress, not his military records just his P.O.W. records. When he went to Vietnam to "normalize relations" he worked a political deal with the Communist to have his P.O.W. records sealed there. Fact, he broadcast over 30 radio broadcast for the North Vietnam, bashing America, our soilders and the war effort. Fact. He shut down the Senate Select Committe that was investigating the unaccounted for P.O.W.'s and M.I.A's. I am an Conservative so this is not a Liberal rant. These are just the facts. My questions are. Why would a "War Hero" need to have his P.O.W. records sealed by an Act of Congress. Why have no Veteran Organizations endorsed him. Why did his friend "Bud Day " and John McCain have identical stories of their captures. Why did Bud Day receive the C.M.H. when none of the requirements were met to be a recipient. No other recipient of the medal uses it for political gain, Mr. Day does. I do not dispute that John McCain was a P.O.W. What we dispute are his accounts of the treatment he received.

I'm positively salivating at the idea of you guys trotting out that particular fairy tale. The difference between Kerry and McCain is that one spent a few short months in Vietnam and nominated himself for his Purple Hearts after the equivalent of paper cuts, whereas the other was a decorated naval aviator who spent years in a POW camp.

Not only is your screed untrue, but the American public would eat you alive if you tried such a tactic.

Actually it isn't for the democrats to do anything. It is up to McSame's fellow POWs to talk about it.

I had a friend who was at Hoa Lo with McSame and he despises McSame. I never asked him why, but there is a real enmity there.

Maybe instead of throwing more mud about the past at each other both sides could discuss the issues. Wouldn't that be refreshing and productive?

When McCain was captured they never treated his injuries (2 broken arms and a broken leg).

The Vietnamese only announced McCain was a POW when they found out his dad was an admiral.

Here is how more of his "betrayal" and "special treatment":

McCain spent six weeks in the hospital while receiving marginal care. He lost lost 50 pounds. In December 1967, he was transferred to a different camp outside Hanoi into a cell with two other Americans who did not expect him to live a week. In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary confinement, where he would remain for two years.

In mid-1968, McCain's father was named commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater, and McCain was offered early release. The North Vietnamese wanted to appear merciful for propaganda purposes, and also wanted to show other POWs that elites like McCain were willing to be treated preferentially. McCain turned down the offer of repatriation; he would only accept the offer if every man taken in before him was released as well.

In August of 1968, a program of severe torture began on McCain. McCain was subjected to repeated beatings and rope bindings, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery. After four days, McCain made an anti-American propaganda "confession". He has always felt that his statement was dishonorable and was doing what he thought was necessary to survive. He would later write, "I had learned what we all learned over there: Every man has his breaking point. I had reached mine." His injuries left him permanently incapable of raising his arms above his head. He subsequently received two to three beatings per week because of his continued refusal to sign additional statements. Other American POWs were similarly tortured and maltreated in order to extract "confessions" and propaganda statements, with many enduring even worse treatment than McCain.

Altogether, McCain was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for five and a half years. He was finally released from captivity on March 14, 1973.
