What do you think of this new vision for Democracy?

1. All previous rights for citizens remain e.g. freedom of speech, right to a fair trial e.t.c.
2. Importantly, not everyone has the right to vote and not everyone can run for office. A certain amount of education and/or service is required, for example 3 years frontline armed forces duty, a base Year 12 education.
3. All political parties (e.g. Republican, Labor, Democrat, Socialist e.t.c.) will be allowed, though every vote in Parliament/Congress must be a conscience vote i.e. free from party influence. Parties will effectively be a group of people with like minded views

Add other things or point out errors in your answer if you wish.

I do like option #2, though I fear perhaps this is becoming slightly elitist for your views. I understand where you're coming from, but I don't completely recommend going that route as it's likely to alienate some of your population and cause some sort of revolt, though it's also possible it'll encourage greater education and service. You'd just have to be careful how you implemented it, really.

Though I really really like #3, that's a good one, though once again maybe difficult to get started.

I think this would be a good topic for a school essay and class discussion.

In my view, however, limiting the franchise would mean that the govt would not be a "democracy," and restricting the power of political parties to influence legislator's votes would be totally impractical and impossible.

First: Democracy is the system of socialism.

Check out the hundreds of socialist websites in the world.
They all promote democracy.

Not one promotes the Constitutional Republic.

There are good reasons.

Keep our USA, a Constitutonal Republic, free and independent.

How could you, or I, or anyone, determine if anyones vote was influenced by any kind of party?

I see enforcement as a problem. Most people like the status quo and will fail to support your reforms. Nothing really wrong with them. The fault lies with the sheeple.
