Do I have to take General Education classes at a Community college just to receive an AA Degree in California?

I HATE Math! Im Terrible at it and quite frankly DON'T have the time for it! I want to go to community college to receive an AA Degree in Criminal Justice/Human Services but I Don't want to have to take Math, English, or Science classes! I just want to take classes pertaining to my field of choice (like Sociology, Political Science, etc..) But I was told that I would HAVE to take a placement exam and have to take General Ed courses first so that I can take the classes I want to get an AA Degree...is this TRUE? I hope not! (By the way I live in Southern California...Please Respond with MATURE, ADULT answers that can help me out...Thanks I'd appreciate it!)

No matter what kind of degree you get or what it is in, you will have general classes to take.,
Get the course catalog from the college. It will list all requirements for Criminal Justice.
Your best bet is to deal with the CC you want to go to directly. Schedule a visit with a adviser, counselor or admissions office. Tell them you want detailed information on getting an AA degree in Criminal Justice. It is the only way to get the right information for your CC.
I know my son had to take a placement test before signing up for classes at our CC. Looking at the same degree at our local CC the 2 year course lists 3 credit hours of math, speech class, and a writing class.

yes you must take the prerequistes. The reason is so that you have a well rounded education. Employers want people that can read, write and do math. If you can't read at the college level, you are more than likely going to fail or struggle with your other classes that aren't math. Math is hard, but it opens another part of your brain. That is the point. Higher Math classes are basically there to teach you how to think abstractly. It helps later when you are doing simulation activities. If you can't think abstractly, you will have a hard time understanding a lot of things in life.
The classes may suck at first, but try to enjoy them if you can. Always ask for help if you need it. Be thankful you are able to educate yourself. Those dreadful classes are there for a good reason.
