Is the clutch going on my car?

I'm a complete car novice so I'm hoping you can help me?

Yesterday only I noticed my clutch being sticky. Sometimes it doesn't lift up fully by itself and it feels...just not right. It's an old car, 1996 Hyundai, and I am wondering is it worth fixing at all. How much does it usually cost to fix?

It was only serviced last December and I only just finished paying off my mechanic for the repairs. Is he at fault or is it just an old car?

Any answers welcome!!!

The car doesn't have a problem changing gears and it doesn't struggle uphill. It's just sticky and even my friend said yesterday it just feels like there is something wrong with it!In fact it drives as normal as it always has done but is just sticky when I lift it up after changing gears

It is an old car and it is bound to be in the mechanics shop often. Is it his fault? Depends on what he was working on - and how good a mechanic he is. You don't give enough info for us to determine this.

As for the clutch - are you talking manual shift of auto? If your car is manual - slipping clutch would make the engine rev but the car would barely accelerate. As for shifting, you the driver shift manual (not "by itself").

If you have an automatic, check the tranny fluid level. In fact when was the last time you had your tranny fluid changed. Most cars need new AUTOMATIC TRANNY FLUID (ATF) every 30K miles.

If you own an auto and the tranny level is OK (but the car won't shift correctly), it really doesn't matter what is wrong with the tranny - as the fix is always the same - get a tranny rebuilt job. The reason is that the labor cost so much you might as well get a complete rebuilt to fix any other little thing that can fail in the next 10K to 50K miles.

Good Luck..

If its the pedal not lifting as it should, then it may not be your clutch thats the problem, it could be the cable/linkage. If this is the case then it should not be a very expensive job. Whatever the problem, its unlikely that your mechanic is to blame. It might be worth asking him to just look at it and he will no doubt be able to give you an immediate diagnosis.

Clutch can go at around 60/70,000 mark, some earlier pending on average use of clutch??
Ive just changed muy old car with 106,000 on clock with original clutch (but i rarely town drive) Your mechanic is NOT at fault here. If your in the uk clutch repair 拢200 lows 拢450..highs.

Every now and then,my wifes Leon suffers from this - apparently it is an intermittently faulty master cylinder. We have found that you get a temporary fix (for up to 8 months) by lifting the pedal with your toe ! Try it - it might work for you too !

does the car struggle up hill, over rev , maybe the clutch plate maybe worn out,if it is it will need a complete clutch, maybe in the 拢180 to 200 quid mark, unless you know a personal mechanic

It sounds like the cluch pedal is sticking on its shaft. WD40 sprayed on it could be a cheap answer

are you having trouble shifting gears?? any grinding noise when you shift ? Do you have to force the trans into gear?
