Mormons. If the earth exploded tomorrow, would God turn his back on the dead who have NOT had proxy services?

This question is number 3 in a series of related questions which have been asked TODAY. If you think you may be interested in the others see my profile questions.

I am researching the mormon religion from the peoples perspective [see new profile] and this question is part of that ongoing research. I use the word "mormon" as a tag so these questions can be found and answered by ANYONE who is doing a YA search containing the word MORMON and knowledgable in this area. I am not, nor have I ever been, a mormon. That means the questions being asked and answered ALL stem from the responders input. My email and questions are open in my profile. As always, if you think this question is interesting enough to share with a star then PLEASE DO. Thank You.

Divina... I know. He also says to trust in HIM. I have some biblical knowledge, but not much. This research is not about me though, it is about the mormon religion and the people within it.

Paul answers that question more directly by his inspired words to the Galatians. Chapter three cuts right to the point. He says that trying to earn salvation by obedience to rituals makes us cursed. That seems to describe a religion that does proxy rituals for those who no longer can. Only faith in Jesus matters. Jesus plus anything ruins everything.

You address your questions to Mormons, and then give Best Answer to a non-Mormon with his pointedly anti-Mormon interpretation of scripture? That's disgusting. Report It

Your questions seem to stem from much thought. Kudos to you for searching and seeking answers.

There will be a 1000 year reign of Christ upon the earth, called the Millennium that begins after he comes again. During Christ's Millennial reign, all of those things you ask while be sorted out and all who have died will be able to have their ordinances work performed, if they desire it.

That's ridiculous divina. Especially since much genealogy is emphasized in the bible. You might want to read it again.

And if the earth exploded tomorrow a just and perfect God would have away for all to receive the opportunity for the same blessings as those who have them.

Divina- if genealogy is unbiblical than why are there chapters of it in the bible? All the begats are just genealogy.

As others have said, it will be taken care of after Christ comes back to the earth. We believe that God is our Loving Father. I don't believe that he would just let someone suffer because time ran out on something they never had the chance to do.

No He would not.
During the millennial reign of Christ all the necessary temple work will be completed. All ordinances will be completed from that time all the way back to Adam and Eve. During the millennium all records will be put straight and nothing will hinder the work at hand.

Plenty of scriptures that speak about the preparation for, life during, and after the millennium.

No.

The whole POINT of baptisms for the dead is that God DOESN'T turn his back on those that weren't baptized merely because they never had the opportunity. The earth isn't going to explode tomorrow...but if it were, God would have accounted for that in his plan (since he sees the end from the beginning).

I see where you're trying to go with this, but God wouldn't allow the earth to explode tomorrow unless everything else that needed to be done was done.

So I guess my answer is, I reject the premise of the question.

LOL. No. As was stated above, the millennium will be the time that all proxy work will be completed as the veil will be thin.

Either way, the temple ordinances are for exaltation. They are not required for salvation.

No, but people don't sometimes understand. we only get one chance. its right now....in THIS life on earth. there is no such thing as god not giving people a chance to hear the gospel or be saved. that is plain as day in the bible.

If the Earth exploded tomorrow, then I would have had incorrect assumptions/beliefs about God.

Well GOd doesn't EVER turn His back on anyone ever.... lst off.

2ndly - proxy work in our temples will continue for thousands of year until ALL have had their work done that need it done or wish it done in their behalf.... so NO WORRIES!

we will never be able to get everyone's work done. it is physically impossible

No, of course not. That is what the 1000 year millennium is for.

No. Proxy baptisms will continue until the end of the Millennium....or about another 1000 or so years.

If I pooped gold would diarrhea be a bad thing? Hypothetical questions based on false premises have no good answers.

Last work - I did the math once- In 178 years we've done the work for 4% of those who have ever lived (based on the assumption of population doubling every generation) Luckily neither function is linear (both are logrythmic) The higher rate of increase of the function of the work getting done gives me hope. (Learn some Calculus you silly goose)

LDS theology is the only set of doctrine currently on the planet that even addresses providing ordance work for those who died without the opportunity to do it themselves. Looking for off the wall, hypothetical shortcomings in the only avalible solution is missing the point by a mile. Do some research on who else even tries to do the job. Nobody- that is who. Did not mean to sound petulent but no other faith tradition on the planet actually does stuff for their dead ansestors, treats them as real- not mere memories. These people are real, we will see them again, we are accountable to them. Faith in a just, merciful, omnipotent God assures me that no one will be missed, no one will fall thru the cracks, every t will be crossed every i dotted. So why should I do it. So I don't have to look my ancestor in the eye and explain that they weren't important enough to me,that I was too busy, that some stranger did it. For us, the Mormons, the eternities and our beloved dead are REAL and very personal- not some silly hypothetical theory.

GOD controls when the world will be destroyed and He will never let it happen until ALL have had the chance to hear and accept or reject the gospel.

God never turns His back on anyone

God has a plan for the Earth, just as He has a plan for us. The Earth will not explode by chance before God's purposes for it are accomplished.

I'm starting to get the feeling that you aren't just asking questions to gain knowledge, but are trying to persuade someone of something.

NO, that is what the millenium is for. There is going to be A LOT of temple work done then. Pretty much everyone's who hasn't been done will be. Period. It is going to take us that 1000 years!!

He provides ways for things to happen... through us. We are told to do the work now. Not only since it is possible now, but I really believe we do temple work for others, basically, to be doing service.

Hopefully that helped...

The earth exploding tomorrow would have to be part of God's plan. He would have known of such an event from the beginning being that he is omniscient.

With that in mind the question may be irrelevant. I don't want to be disrespectful, but "if" questions cast doubt on the characteristics of God. Notice the questions presented to the Savior throughout his ministry. "If" thou be the son of God.......

well, i dont think the earth would explode tomorrow, but i get your point.

my opinion is such that we would still be "saved". i think it would be the same principle that babies are saved without baptism.

i understand that they are fine because they are not accountable, and we are, but i am sure thats where gods grace comes into play. by grace ye are saved, after all you can do. earth blowing up would be out of our control, so i am sure we would be fine- christ still died for us already.

As others have pointed out, God has told us of his plans for this earth, and we know it will be around for at least a thousand years. After that it will be transformed, but not destroyed.

I think your question is, what would happen to the dead who have not had their temple work done for them by proxy on earth, if there was no longer any earth? If such a thing as the destruction of the earth were possible, my guess is that God would recreate the earth. God doesn't let any of His promises drop or fail on His part. He would never turn his back on anyone who sincerely wanted to do what is right.

Perhaps your question is, Couldn't God find another way to save the dead other than by temple work by proxies? What we know is that this is the way God has planned it, both for the benefit of the dead, and for our benefit in sacrificing our time and effort in their behalf. It is wisdom on God's part to do it the way He commands, whether we understand all the reasons or not.

I was once tempted to second guess God and come up with better plans that He did. I learned that God is far wiser than I am. There is no comparison.

What if . . . ? is the classic method a writer uses to create a story. What if scenarios that are serious should be considered within the context of what we currently know and believe (I'll get to the scenario when it lies outside that context in a moment).

First, we are told, "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." (Amos 3:8) The interesting thing about this chapter is that it discusses the what if scenario and then answers it with the quote that I've cited.

So, it boils down to faith/trust in the Lord God. We trust that what we have been instructed to do will not fail and that all will be accomplished, but in the Lord's time and according to the will of the Lord.

We do not believe that God will ever deny any person the blessings for which they are worthy. Therefore, the answer to your question from the LDS (Mormon) perspective is, "No."

==========

Now to the outside the context of what we know - I believe that God's will, his purpose, which is to "Bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man," will be fulfilled, regardless of what happens to the mortal world(s). If the earth were to become uninhabitable in the next few minutes, God would still have his purpose fulfilled. If not by us, then by the very angels of heaven. That is my belief in the matter and whether it is doctrine or not, well, consider it part of Old Timer's doctrine.

Blessings.

Nope, I think those that didn't have a chance, could be baptized in the next life, IF they wanted it.
(it really is all a matter of choice.)

This one is more of a matter of choice. It is recommended to avoid Access Diver for a start.

The two main respected Proxy Server Checkers are AATools and Charon. Both of which are quite nice to use, however AATools is a little easier, but comes with a price tag.

As an alternative, the Proxy Server Checker in Sentry is free, easy to use, and the program also has other uses.

For some advanced options, It is recommended to use Charon. It has the options to strip Gateway Proxy Servers, Duplicates, and Blacklist bad IP's.

At the end of the day, the quality of scan is only as good as the Proxy Judge you use anyway.

I hope so. The LDS aren't even doing baptism for the dead as fast as people are dying around the world. They can't keep up, if you do the math. There are billions of non-Mormons and only a couple million LDS are actively going to temples to do ordinances for the dead.

Doing those ordinances may make the LDS feel good about themselves, but it isn't helping anyone else.

Just so you know, the Bible cautions us to not waste time on geneaology.

God never told anyone to get married or baptized by proxy.
