I made a claim to Veterans Affairs for compensation?

my condition is a squizoaffective disorder that started while i was in service in the us army. I was in service for one year and two months only, will i get my claim approved? PS. I have a lawyer for my case. The problem is that i was only treated in the army for severe depression, and i got record of that. My condition has worsened during the past years and i didnt know that i had this condition until one year and a half ago. please, serious answers only, and please only answer if you know about the issue. thanks.

I work at a VA Regional Office. I can't tell you much about the development end as that's not what I do, but I can tell you that they will compensate you if they determine that the evidence shows your disorder is service-connected (either caused by service or aggravated) and you currently have a disability. I'm not sure a whole lot about mental disorders, if they're rated SC or not (I remember seeing depression as a claimed condition but I can't remember if it was SC or not).

I'm sorry I can't be much help, but I thank you for your service and hope you get the benefits you deserve. Just be sure to show up for examinations and send in any evidence you have to support your claim.

I know you mentioned you have a lawyer, but many vets have VSO's (like American Legion, DAV, etc) to represent them to help them with their claims. If you have someone helping you that knows how the system works and can help you with your claim, that's great! My dad is a vet and had no idea about VA benefits until a few years ago (he retired in 1997) and he had someone help him out since he had no idea what the process was like.

I have to assume that you are under a doctors care. first off who filed the claim for you? and has the VA made a ruling yet on your claim? I have been going through a claim at the VA for 19 months. i got a partial rating but the VA didn't rate everything so i still am waiting. i got our county cvso to file the claim and i gave power of attorney to the American Legion to push my claim. The American Legion or The Disabled American Veterans are both good to help you with your claim The Veterans of Foreign Wars isn't very good at pushing claims.
