Why are Conoco prices higher than competitors 3 blocks down the road?

When I'm driving down the road, I refuse to go to a Conoco station. This is because as I drive, literally, I can go further down the road and see another gas station that is usually 5-7 cents cheaper. Does anyone have an answer to that question? Both places will have almost the same level of service, i.e., snacks, variety store that's neat, etc.

And, I will throw out answers that are the cliche-ish "It's Big Oil screwing the little guy."

Short of gouging, there are a number of causes for the disparity in prices at different service stations.

1. Corporate-owned stations have a different cost for gas than independent stations.

2. Namely large convenience store/gas station chains buy in bulk.

3. Location is another factor even if it is 1/2 mile down the road.

4. The gas stations real estate prices might also be higher.

5. Different gas formulations are also a factor.

6. Profit margin is another variant.
