What is causing this skin rash?

I'd be going to see my doctor, but it's Saturday, and they won't be opened till Monday - the weekend service isn't answering my calls...

I was diagnosed with Strep Throat last Friday (8 days ago) and am currently on Amoxicillin. Since the day before being diagnosed, I've been completely exhausted - sleeping without interruption for up to 13 hours at a time, and needing a nap during the day (fortunately/unfortunately I've been out of work as of late).

My throat is feeling much better, though not cured of soreness, but just last night I broke out all over - head to toe - in a bumpy rash. It's ALL OVER me - not incredibly itchy, but very unsightly, and my husband's concerned it might be contagious. I was feeling feverish when I woke up, but not so much for the rest of the day.

For all intents and purposes, I don't *feel* sick - does anybody know what in the world is causing this rash? Is it related to strep? medicine? Please help - thanks.

doctor FINALLY answered my calls (11 hours later...) said many patients have this reaction to amox after 7 days - said to stop taking the meds, start taking anti-histamines, and come back in for another throat culture to be sure i don't need a different prescription.

Could be either. The strep specifically is known to cause a rash although not extremely common. But it's more likely a reaction to the amox. You shoudl get through to the service and let them know...if you've gotten in about 5-7 days of the amox, that's good enough and you can stop. If just a day or two, then you may need to be switched to erythromycin.
