Christians: Let's just assume for a moment that you found undeniable proof that God and Heaven didn't exist...

As I said, UNDENIABLE scientific evidence. How would your life change? Would you hold onto your faith? Would you still try to live by Christian morals?

Please, don't answer with "Well, that's not going to happen, so I don't care..." This is for people with the ability to think hypothetically that have real, intelligent answers.

I'm curious to find out, because it seems like Christians in general think that lack of a belief in God means lack of morals, which simply isn't true.

Hi Hippie,

Though I can't speak for others, the reason why I find this question hard to answer is because the scientific method itself deals with the natural, material universe. God and Heaven are supernatural (at least that is the way I see it). To prove that God and Heaven do not exist, you would need to acknowledge that there is in fact, a supernatural realm, and that God and Heaven were NOT there. We can go really deep with this idea, but I just wanted to let you know where I was coming from.

However, hypothetically speaking, if there was undeniable proof that God did not exist, I would still have a deep appreciation for the holy scriptures, and still regard it as a book of practical wisdom, and still abide by, or at least make persistent effort to abide by its teachings, which I find to be beneficial, with or without God.

I wouldn't start hurting people, because that was never in my character to do even when I didn't believe. I am not one of those Christians who equates lack of belief with lack of morals. Honestly, what would most likely happen is that I would revert back to heavy drinking like I used to do before I became a Christian.

This a good question. I think its best put by Blaise Pascal in Pascals Gambit (or Pascals Wager). It basicly says that..

"If you erroneously believe in God, you lose nothing (assuming that death is the absolute end), whereas if you correctly believe in God, you gain everything (eternal bliss). But if you correctly disbelieve in God, you gain nothing (death ends all), whereas if you erroneously disbelieve in God, you lose everything (eternal damnation)."

There is no harm in living by the standards of the Bible, you live a good life and help mankind. Even if God doesnt exist, you lose nothing. But if you don't believe and God does exist, you lose everything.
