NEED ADVICE/suggestions - Am I the only one that feels this way? ONLY SERIOUS ANSWERS - NOT RACIST QUeSTION...

All right..

I was born in Texas, have an American accent, get mistaken a lot for being a Mexican. When I tell people I am Indian, they think I'm Native American. I don't know much about Indian culture/heritage - people think I'm an ABCD (but trying to be nice and trying to fit in & know my homeland people..i want to learn and trying to learn)....HOWEVER

The entire time I try, they're close-minded, they label me, think I am an alien b/c of the way I dress or talk, only think about themselves/their money, look at me funny if I can't speak Hindi. VERY RUDE (poor customer service if shop in Indian store) - if I complain or call them out, they are talking in Hindi & I know they're talking **** about me. It's like a no win. The sad thing is that I should be the one making fun of them, but I don't. I mean I can call them FOB or tell them they smell b/c they don't use deodarant, but I don't.

I'm changing my name to Nathan. At least Americans accept me. Am I sell-out? Anyone feel me?

No you are not a sell out....I work for Indians and thank God I work for some nice ones..They have told me that most Indians are Bastards,not to trust any of them,but yet at the same time I have experienced them talking in Hindi and I know they was talking about me i do not think it was bad but how am I to know?

I do feel you and I am sure it is very frustrating to have one foot in your roots and the other where you feel you belong. Go to where you are happy and have a great life. You are not a sell out, you would be if you continued to walk the walk and talk that others expected of you. Be happy, it is your life not anyone elses.

you're not a sell-out by changing your name. it's okay as long as u dont deny your true nationality. like if someone asks u, tell them youre an indian. if they give u attitude (people in the store), shrug em off. whatever. theyre the ones who are FOB. haha. yeah. just dont be pretentious, acting like youre from another race. more people will disrespect u or dislike u for that. stay true okay? good luck nathan :)

Do not change anything. Walk with your head held high, and screw the joneses if ya know what I mean. You are not a sellout. People who are unsure of themselves need to make others feel inferior. Do not let them get to you.
