Why do President Bush Sr get a bad rap?

This man has answered his country calling everytime
1. Served in WWII( Become a hero)
2. United Nation Ambassador
3. CIA Director
4. Vice- President
5. President
6. State Congressman

I think this guy could be consider next to John Adams and answering his country's call to service

George Bush the father I think was certainly more charming, intelligent, and articulate than his son. His leadership was not great, but good during the Kuwait war ... he made a few blunders, but compared to his son's handling of the Iraq war ... well that's another topic.

Everyone seems to forget Bush senior's presidency was destroyed by his mishandling of the economy. He was defeated in his attempt at re-election to the presidency, because the United States was in worst shape of any time since the Great Depression of 1929! Very high unemployment, recession, loss of investor confidence, bad housing market. Meanwhile the Bush family was prospering with their oil billions and their Saudi friends. The unofficial anguished cry at the Bush White during his election campaign was "IT"S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!!!"

Two things, we could have gotten rid of Saddam in 91, negating the current war, and second he lied about not raising taxes.

He also had an extremely high approval rating. He only made one mistake: signing the bill he wanted approved after the Democrats threw an unrelated tax onto it.
I even remember a David Letterman Top-Ten list that was along the lines of "Top Ten Ways George Bush Could Blow The Election", implying he was already a shoo-in.
