Why do people answer others with translation software?

As the title says, why do people on these boards who do not speak a language and know nothing or next to nothing about a language feel the need to use a software translation service on the net and then post answers to people's questions?

Is it because they are trying to acquire more and more Yahoo Answers points? Do they want to appear like they know the language? They definitely don't, because all who know the language know they used a software translator.

Do they actually think that the software can produce decent results? Do they know that it produces garbage language a vast majority of the time, and that even when it's sensical, it's strange or awkward?

I found Darryl's answer extremely poor and incorrect, because as mentioned, translation software does not accurately or reasonably translate; it produces garbage. The language section here is therefore not useless, because language software cannot translate for people accurately or even reasonably.

I've seen most of them are language students, some of them useing a translator are in basic level classes, and some intermediate and advance.
I suppose the basic level students use the translator to respond and to learn more.
Off course some just use it to earn points, also many answer cause the question is part of their mother tong, however they're no teachers, neither language interpreters, but they do their best like myself.......Spanish is my mother tong

Two points are given for answers, no matter the content. So long as a person can feel like s/he has "helped" someone and gets rewarded for it, there isn't going to be any further thought put forth into it. You appear to be a new user so I may as well burst your bubble of whatever hope you have for this site before you ask any more questions that have been asked before pertaining to the intelligence of the users. Yahoo!Answers isn't the best display of intelligence, it's just the best display of who has the top ability to copy and paste URLs and Wikipedia articles.

Because those who do not know the language can easily translator online. Thus deeming the Language category useless, seeing most languages can be translated online. Mainly for points, mainly for answering thw question.
