When exactly can I port from Sprint to Verizon and avoid the ETF or other fees?

I want to port my current number from Sprint to Verizon. Checking on the Verizon site, it says my number is available for porting.

My current plan with sprint is set to expire on 06/22/2008.

I am patient enough to wait until then to try porting the number.

I would like to avoid the $200 ETF, but I am stuck as to how to go about this with a successful portal. I have a couple of questions.

Once I reach 06/22/2008, can I go ahead and visit a Verizon store to port my number without being charged the ETF, or do I need to wait until the day right after - 06/23/2008?

Also, what happens to my Sprint plan right after 06/22/2008? Is it automatically cancelled or renewed, or does the service continue in some way? I know my phone number needs to remain active in order for me to be able to port it.

Anybody that can answer this for me, please do so; it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

-Gina

If it expires on the 22nd you can port your number that day. Once the port goes through it will automatically cancel your Sprint service and in a couple of weeks you'll get your final bill.

If you don't port or cancel your service will continue just as it has. You stay on the same plan and pay the same amount. You're just no longer in a contract so you can leave without worrying about the EFT.

One thing to make sure of before you cancel is that your CONTRACT ends on 6/22. Sprint allows their customers to upgrade their phone two months before their contract is up. So make sure the date you have isn't your upgrade eligibility date!
