All American Vets and Service Personnel, please help me, should I purchase this medal?

I currently reside in Australia but am an American Citizen. Tomorrow is an auction in the town where I live -- one of the items on the auction block is an American Silver Star Military Medal - which I believe is the fourth highest honor one can receive for gallantry in action and heroism. I was absolutely astounded that it was here in Australia and I must admit a bit miffed about that too. My question is should I bid on this and purchase it, and if I do, is there somewhere in the US that I can send it to to donate it so that it will be back on US soil where it belongs? There is no information regarding the receipient, just the medal itself, but I have very strong feelings about it not being in the US. Am I just a nut case or are my feelings justified? Thank you for any answers.

Yes by all means get it and send it to a Vet, we can get it to the proper place. Send it to me and I will encase it and label as a medal awarded to an unknown soldier, and place it on the Veterans Memorial.

I really don't know, especially if there's no information regarding the original recipient.

I did a Google search for "purchase military medal", and found a website where they can be purchased; it lists the Silver Star for $33.75. Now, obviously, that's only the hardware and not the authorization to wear it.
